Sustainable Design
Sustainability is no buzz word around krM.It is a commitment and a philosophy that gets stitched into every design decision we make.
Our clients don’t need to ask us to do sustainable or ‘green’ projects, they simply ask us to do projects. Our projects are ‘green’ because it’s just good design, plain and simple. krM believes sustainability is inherent in great design and we approach every project from this belief. We are deliberate in educating our clients about the value of measuring their building’s performance through systems such as the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program, yet let them evaluate if certification is an important goal. Regardless of the inclination toward LEED certification, krM designs with materials and procedures that emphasize sustainability and respect for conserving our natural resources. Many of our staff are LEED accredited professionals and carry that understanding into their daily design work.
Are you looking for certification? Great. The USGBC’s LEED rating systems and the Green Guide for Healthcare are two great tools by which we can measure and judge how well we are doing.
What is LEED?
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) was formed in 1993 and has developed a system of ranking or scoring buildings called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This system ranks the overall quality of a building as it relates to minimizing its impact in our environment while also providing comfortable and healthy interior spaces for the users. GBCI manages all aspects of the LEED AP program including exam development, registration and delivery. BGCI also oversees the development of the maintenance program for LEED AP credential holders.
