Project: Pendleton Community Library New Building
The Pendleton Community Library entered into a project design concept that was inspired by the nature theme surrounding the community of Pendleton. With Fall Creek meandering through the popular Falls Park nearby, the Library Board and designers began brainstorming and created an interior space that is full of natural details.
The result became an entirely new brand for the Library including a newly designed logo and theme. A stone pathway is created from the exterior entrance and continues inside the library space. The carpet trail design is a Lees Carpet stone pattern that leads the patrons from one end of the building to the other. There are stopping points along the trail including the Adult Reference Desk, Indiana Room, Computer Lab and Audio/Visual area, Teen area, Circulation desk, Periodical Reading Room and Children’s department. When walking along a trail, there must be signage to lead the way. ASI Signage provided custom designs to identify each stopping point and a main trail sign inside the front entrance.
With natural light coming from large areas on the north and south sides of the building, patrons have a feeling of being outdoors. The building flows from every design aspect. The design elements from outside continue inside the building using natures colors, textures and a traffic flow pattern mimicking the surrounding environmental elements. The library provides a feeling of calm, flowing trickling creek with stopping points along the way – much like the Fall Creek a stones throw away.
