West Side Redevelopment

Focusing on an area much underutilized, the City of Anderson approached krM for ideas of possible development.  krM took great interest in brainstorming how the area could be best used for the neighborhood and the entire west side of Anderson, which could strongly benefit from new shopping and dining facilities.  krM expanded the boundary of study and eventually produced an overall masterplan for several blocks.  At its core, the plan blends 'mixed use' together with a central spine of green space that also serves as water detention and pre-treatment.  Within this spine, street-side parking mixes with lots to provide convenient parking while not overwhelming the site as in many of today’s malls.  At the east end of the development, a more pedestrian based area will create an inviting zone of neighborhood activity along with the proposed community center, plaza, and playground.
